Directions

From I-95 / Rt. 128

  1. Take I-95 or Rt. 128 to Exit 29A (Rt. 1 Dedham).
  2. Follow Rt. 1, 4+ miles (Rt. 1 also becomes VFW Parkway about 2 miles from Rt. 128).
  3. At lights at VFW Parkway and LaGrange Street, take a left onto LaGrange Street.
  4. St. Joseph Cemetery main entrance is ¼ mile on the left.

From Downtown Boston

  1. Take Storrow Drive west to the Kenmore Square exit.
  2. Take a left onto Brookline Ave.
  3. Follow Brookline Ave to the end.
  4. Take right onto Rt. 9 West, 4+ miles to lights at Hammond Street.
  5. Take left onto Hammond Street. Drive ¼ mile to rotary.
  6. Go straight across the rotary onto LaGrange Street.
  7. St. Joseph Cemetery entrance is 1 mile on the right.

Cremation Burial Requirements

Please call the office by 10:00am one day prior to the burial. Our staff will take the required information over the phone, including:

  • legal name of deceased
  • address of the deceased
  • age of the deceased
  • date of death
  • location of grave to be opened for burial
  • family member requesting burial
  • family member’s address
  • family member’s telephone number
  • family member’s relationship to the deceased

Cremation burials are scheduled Monday-Friday 8:00am – 2:00pm, and for an additional fee, Saturday 8:00am – 12:00pm.

Yes, the cemetery requires a permanent container which can be purchased from your funeral director. Cremations are released from the crematory in a temporary container which is not suitable for burial. A cremation liner can be purchased from the cemetery. This container is a basic white container which can be sealed by cemetery personnel on the day of burial.

Interment order signed by the owner or a direct heir to the owner. Cremation certificate released from the crematory with the cremation and sometimes taped to the cremation. Payment for the burial fee (check, cash or credit card).

The family is asked to gather at the cemetery office located at the main entrance at 990 LaGrange Street in West Roxbury, MA 15 minutes before the scheduled time. If the burial is taking place at Holyhood Cemetery, the family will gather at the entrance of Holyhood, located at 584 Heath Street in Brookline, MA.

When the family is present and the paperwork has been completed, you will be led to the grave in procession. The grave will be dressed and a table will be set up to accommodate the cremation urn. Once the family has completed the graveside service, the urn will be placed in the prepared burial spot.

St. Joseph Cemetery can help you schedule clergy with a nearby rectory. Please let the cemetery staff know at the time of scheduling the cremation burial.

Most graves at St. Joseph Cemetery can accommodate 2 cremations in addition to 2 full casket burials. To request information on a specific grave, please call the office at 617-327-1010.
